Are there any decent ready-made pad thai sauces that can be found in Seattle?
I dont have much luck making it from scratch, but I like it saucy, spicy and just a little sweet!

Re: Pad Thai Sauce
Mon, December 4, 2006 - 10:12 PMHuh? As in like a pre-made sauce to pour over noodles to make instant pad thai? What do you know, they do make them. I had to go check my online Thai grocery stores.
As for where, I can personally vouch for importfood.com/ which is based in Seattle, or if you want it to come all the way across the country so you don't have to pay tax :) I can also vouch for www.templeofthai.com/ which comes from a store called Bangkok Center Grocery on Mosco St. in NYC Chinatown. Both always deliver, timely, packed well, and fair priced (assuming you can't find it locally - it'll always be cheaper locally.)
Pad Thai is quite basic, and there's really nothing "saucy" about the dish; the only liquid is nam pla, your tamarind soak, the oil, and whatever water you don't cook out of your soaked noodles. My pad thai is pretty dry, it is not like a curry dish.
If you're gonna shortcut and just use a pre-made sauce, you might want to try some of the instant pad thai noodle brands that are out there. Some are quite good, and just using the pad thai sauce doesn't really save you any time (unless you just like the taste and plan on using it like catsup, in which case, have fun!)

Tue, December 5, 2006 - 12:01 AMTaste of Thai sells a Pad Thai sauce that I really like, but I use half a jar for a pack of noodles, rather than the wimpy two T or whatever they recommend.
